Since when does Apple try to lower prices by making something less elegant and appealing to a wide audience? Price is no restrictor (compared to others)!!! :)
What exactly is so "elegant" about requiring the disassemble of half the computer just to change out the GPU?

He kind of hit the nail on the head with that diatribe. I especially liked the 1984 big brother reference. Quite appropriate as apple has been acting more like big brother and less "thinking different"
Yes. They failed to realize in 1984, being small up-and-comers and all, that once you do gain power you will always end up like Big Brother in the end.
Doesn't matter if you're a communist leader, innovator, entrepreneur, artist, hippie, fascist, anarchist, liberal, freedom fighter... if you actually do get people to follow your lead, you will ALWAYS end up as a paranoid, self-serving control freak in an ivory tower with all your fancy ideals flying out the window, while pondering how to best squash your detractors and competitors and how to best brain wash the masses into obedience: Thought police, Kool-Aid or The Matrix?
the more the story gets out, it becomes apparent this was a theft!
That's like saying "The more people actually go to theaters and watch Gigli, the more they'll realize that it wasn't as bad as everyone said". Maybe it was the worst movie ever, maybe it wasn't, but it's too late to change public opinion once the snowball has started rolling. And the ones who did bother to watch it and found it not entirely horrible aren't going to admit it.
The bandwagon goes where it wants to go. Once it has decided, however irrationally, that Apple = Gestapo, Apple will have to work 200 times harder to prove that it isn't quite the Hitler's henchmen the rumors speak of. It's not like the bandwagon is going to stop and go "well you know, now that we have more information from both sides I'm starting to see this thing in a whole new light. Apple is cool again in my book!". To turn it around you need to build a 20 ft concrete wall or something.
So The law doesn't really apply when there's public image at stake? LOL
I don't think you should ask the poster about that, I think you should ask Steve.
- Hey Steve, would you be willing to give up some of the Apple brand's value in terms of perceived coolness, in order to ensure that one person is punished for picking up a mislaid phone and selling it to a tech blog instead of returning it?
What do you think he would respond?
A) True, we have spent several decades and billions of dollars on honing our brand image. As post-hippie Californians we thrive on being perceived as cool and laid back, and considering the amount of grass we've smoked over the years and all the naughty little things we did, like steal the "iPhone" trademark from another company without flinching, maybe we shouldn't be ones to talk. But, what the hell, I'm willing to throw all that away to see these punks nailed.
B) Abort! Abort!

Great app, especially since I have an EyeTV.
But while it works fine on my 64 GB iPod Touch, the performance of the app on my iPhone 3G is not good. The video takes a very long time to load (compared to the iPod Touch) and it only plays for a few seconds before it pauses to load more content (the Touch runs continuously). Not sure if this has to do with my Touch having a lot more free space available than the iPhone, or if the improved CPU in the Touch makes a difference.

I don't know if you have noticed, but MacRumors is a forum for Apple products. Apple just doesn't make abominations like Nokia...so yeah, if Apple makes it I will buy it given the above mentioned assumptions.
Yeah my apologies...I didn't notice this site was about Apple products.
/sarcasm It was a joke . You don't have to be a jerk about it

Yes,but they like to differentiate the models as you move up in price. Apple has a way of you leading you up to the most expensive model. Sold!
Colour variantion handling of the nanos are subpar in my opinion let all models have all colours. simple.

I can't imagine what the new would be (assuming there is one) if there wasnt then there would be huge improvements to the already existing one.

Awww I'm getting a MacBook on the 21st of January, what if iLife 07 is announced on the 22nd ? :(
They'll likely slip an extra disc in the package and you'll install iLife '07 separately.

I think it's difficult to come to any type of conclusion without seeing how customizable the workflow is. For all we know, there is still the option to edit "traditionally." I viewed this more as a demo of what new stuff they are bringing to the table. Of course everyone sees automated processes and scream "iMoviePro" without considering that they're merely an optional way to work...I love how you can isolate your tracks with Compound Clips :) When Randy was showing this off, he would switch back and forth from multi-tracks down to the collapsed version.
Now more nesting sequences :)
Now Im hoping everyone adopts this (Adobe and Avid).
Gone are the days of the multi layer/track cluttered timelines :)

if i'm paying for a digital subscription, there's no reason why i should also have to look at ads.
i can see why there are ads for a print edition, due to printing costs, paper, and shipping, but none of those exist for a digital edition.
It's the other way around - the cover price more or less covers the cost of paper et al, and the major revenue comes off advertising. Even if it costs only 1% of the paper price to create the e-version, the firm isn't going to accept $1 or $2 from your subscription in lieu of the maybe $3-5 it makes (per copy) from selling the ad space.

Unless you are suggesting something has changed in the last two years what has the date of the article got to do with it,if it has changed please supply a source(no your relatives won't do).If you insist on presenting your personal prejudices as fact this discussion will go nowhere.I'm still waiting for a source for the 800000 people who can work but don't by the way.
Okay, the article I read a while ago. But here it is: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/conservative/2176336/Incapacity-benefit-claimed-by-more-than-800000.html
The don't want to work, but can work, went a little far, but please read, it's interesting. I was getting more to the point of welfare dependancy. Anyhow, it's best I don't reply, I havent' slept since my night shift, around 27 hours now. So best not for me to try and debate things. On that note, sleep time. Zz

How is that ?
I just sold my PowerBook and I'm temporarily on an IBM ThinkPad T42. Untill I get my new 20" iMac (this Saturday) ;)
To be honest. That ThinkPad has an amazing build quality compared to my TiBook. It doesn't feel like it's going to break all the time.

I completely agree with Tomorrow on this, but I'll take it a step further. If someone is as stupid as this woman seems, they don't deserve to be in the gene pool. Christ, too bad the guy didn't shake the car and wipe this imbecile off the face of the earth. Yeah I know I'm a horrible person, and talking like an idiot, so on and so forth. Sorry I'm not be some bleeding heart who says, "Oh I feel so bad for this poor poor abused woman. Her husband deserves to burn, for this heinous act of abuse. He should have stopped for her, it was his responsibility, she was just trying to rescue their marriage by not lettig him run off, she just wanted to work things out." Cry me a river:rolleyes: It's the wife's own fault, for being an idiot and chasing after her husband (who was obviously trying to get away from his insane wife) and jumping on the roof of the car. I sure as hell wouldn't vote to find him guilty, unless it meant wiping his idiotic face off of the earth too.
The point is that people who demonstrate extreme stupidity (in this case both the wife and the husband, who's an idiot for not trying to shake her off) don't deserve to see another day in which they can create stupid children.

I really like iDVD! I don’t need it often, but it does the job really easily and looks great. I’ve even used it to make looping commercial displays (where the menu style doesn’t matter, I just need to get my video running painlessly).
Maybe DVD burning will just be rolled into iMovie and iPhoto directly. That could work, since few people probably use iDVD alone without starting from iMovie or iPhoto.
Otherwise, it’s back to 3rd party software for that.
I bet desktops will include them for a while, but notebooks will switch to external options. I do a lot of digital media creation, and my USB drives get used for storage soooo much more than the superdrive.

Maybe so—at least on the low end of notebooks (either the smallest or the cheapest). I thought I’d need the external DVD for my MacBook Air, but three years later I never, ever have! You can even erase your Air’s HS and re-install Mac OS X without an optical drive! I was amazed. You just put the disc in some other computer on your network, and the Air sees it—even if the Air has no OS installed! (But what I can’t make work without an external: key discs for game copy protection. Luckily? my Air is too old to play any of my key-disc games.)

It's interesting how large the magnitude of disconnect between the planned purchase estimates and the actual marketshare is for Macs (e.g.. 17-18% of people planning to buy computers state they will get a Mac, but only 5-7% actually do). In contrast the numbers later for HP seem relatively close to their actual marketshare numbers.
They don't offer an interpretation, but one tempting one is that people who are very strongly considering getting a Mac get dissuaded as they get immediately close to purchase, to a much greater extent than PC buyers.
